Open sea: send someone a few minutes out on the water

Open sea is not a celebration but a short break you give to someone. They find themselves at water level in the middle of an ocean with no shore in sight: haze on the horizon, clouds overhead, a path of sun or moonlight across the water. A soft ring on screen grows for four seconds and shrinks for six. As they breathe in, the view lifts gently on the back of a swell; as they breathe out, it settles again, and the sound of the waves rises and falls in the same rhythm, so they can follow it with their eyes closed.

It is a quiet way to tell a friend after a long week, a sibling in exam season or a coworker glued to their screen to take a few minutes for themselves. You choose the length and the scene and write a short note, then send the link on WhatsApp or anywhere else. It opens in their phone browser, with no app, no microphone and no personal details asked for.

What does the recipient experience?

  1. The first screen shows who sent the break and how many minutes it lasts. They tap "Start the break"; a "Deep sound" toggle underneath adds an optional low layer to the audio. Headphones are recommended.
  2. The sea fades in slowly from black while "Let your shoulders drop" and "Let your breath follow the waves" appear.
  3. The breathing cycle begins: in for 4 seconds, out for 6. The first three breaths are labelled "Breathe in" and "Out"; after that only the ring and the sound guide them. The view rides up and down the swell with each breath.
  4. They can drag left or right to look around the sea. One tap hides the ring and text, and no touch ever changes the breathing rhythm.
  5. When time is up a single soft chime sounds and the screen reads "The break is over. These minutes were yours."
  6. Your note appears. They can reply with ❤️ 🥹 🌊 🙏 or 😌, or tap "Again" to start the break over.

What can you choose?

You set the length anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes (2 by default). There are three scenes: calm morning, sunset and night, where moonlight shimmers on the water. You also enter their name, your name and a short note, or pick one of the suggested notes if you are not sure what to say.

When to send it

No special occasion needed; send it on any day someone could use a pause. After a day of back-to-back meetings, before a trip, at bedtime, or simply to let them know you are thinking of them. It works best somewhere quiet with headphones on. It is not a health app, just a few calm minutes of sound and sea.

Common questions

Does the recipient have to do anything?

No. Once they start, following the ring and the sound is enough, and the break runs to the end without any taps. Dragging to look around is optional.

What is "Deep sound"?

An optional, very quiet layer that plays slightly different tones in each ear. It only changes the colour of the sound and makes no promise of any effect; it is meant for headphones.

Can I see whether they finished the break?

Yes. Your private tracking page shows whether the link was opened, whether the break was completed and which thank-you emoji they sent.
