Rainy window: listen to the rain and write on the misty glass

Rainy window turns the whole screen into a pane of glass. Blurred lights glow behind it; tiny droplets cling to the surface while larger drops wander down, leaving thin clear trails where they have wiped away the mist. As the recipient breathes out the glass fogs a little more, and as they breathe in it clears slightly. They can write a word or draw something in the mist with a finger, and the world outside turns sharp through the lines. After a few seconds the mark fogs over again and disappears, much like writing on a bus window as a kid.

Send it to a friend stuck indoors on a grey day, someone working from home who never looks up from the laptop, or a tired parent who could use a few quiet minutes. You choose the length and the view behind the window, add a short note, and share the link on WhatsApp or anywhere else. It opens in their browser, no app needed.

What does the recipient experience?

  1. The opening screen says how many minutes of rainy break you sent and invites them to sit by the window. They tap "Start the break"; "Deep sound" is optional, and headphones are recommended.
  2. The window fades in from black: "Let your shoulders drop" and "Let your breath drift with the rain."
  3. The 4-second in, 6-second out cycle begins. Rain hisses and drops tap against the glass, with soft thunder rolling now and then in the distance. After three breaths the words step aside and only the ring stays.
  4. Moving a finger over the glass writes or draws in the mist, and a quick tap leaves a fingerprint. The mark stays clear for a while, then slowly fogs over. Touches never change the breathing rhythm.
  5. When time is up a single chime sounds and the screen says "The break is over. These minutes were yours."
  6. Your note opens, and they can reply with ❤️ 🥹 🌧️ 🙏 or 😌, or tap "Again" to return to the window.

What can you choose?

The break lasts 1 to 5 minutes, 2 by default. You pick one of three views: city at night (window and street lights, distant traffic), morning garden (grey-green daylight, leaves, the odd bird) or forest cabin (dark pines, the reflection of a lamp inside, a gently crackling stove). You also fill in their name, your name and a note, with suggestions to start from.

When to send it

It is not tied to a date. Sending it while it is actually raining where they are feels fitting, but it works on a sunny day too. Think of a student in exam week, a friend who just moved, or anyone at the end of a long day. Writing on the glass is optional; they can simply listen to the rain and follow their breath. It is not a treatment, just a few quiet minutes.

Common questions

How long does writing on the glass stay visible?

The mark stays clear for about eight seconds, then mists over gradually during the next twenty or so until the glass looks as it did before.

Is the thunder startling?

No, it is a soft, distant rumble that comes only now and then. The rest of the sound is rain, drops tapping the glass and a warm pad underneath.

Can you see clearly through the window?

Where the glass is misted, the view is soft and milky. Through the lines you draw and inside the raindrops, the lights look sharper.
