Wishing Fountain: a coin for you in the town square

The Wishing Fountain drops the recipient into an old town square at the end of the day. Big, wet-looking cobblestones catch the glow of iron street lamps; behind them stand tiled-roof buildings with warm windows and arched doorways framed by potted shrubs, with round trees on either side. In the middle is a round stone basin with a two-tier fountain, old coins glinting on the bottom. They grab the coin at the bottom of the screen and flick it into the water. As it sinks it starts to glow, and a short phrase and their name light up across the surface.

It is a lovely way to say 'you were on my mind' without waiting for a special date: for a friend you haven't seen in a while, someone with an exam or interview coming up, or anyone whose day you want to brighten. You choose the time of day, the coin and your message, then send the link on WhatsApp or paste it wherever you like.

What does the recipient experience?

  1. The opening screen says the sender 'made a wish for you'. They turn the sound on and tap 'Go to the fountain', and the sound of running water begins.
  2. The camera moves into the square while their name is written out letter by letter.
  3. A coin appears at the bottom of the screen. They hold it and flick it upwards: speed sets the distance, a sideways swipe sets the direction. A throw that's too weak, short or strong bounces off the rim and comes back, but the third try always lands. A 'Toss it for me' button is there too.
  4. The coin splashes in, ripples spread, and it wobbles down to the bottom where it begins to glow.
  5. The camera rises above the basin: a phrase for the occasion and their name light up on the water, the fountain swells and turns gold, sparks of light drift up and our own harp waltz begins.
  6. Then the sender's message opens, and they can reply with ✨, 🪙, 🙏, 🥹 or ❤️.

What can you choose?

You can set the square at night, under a deep navy sky, or at dusk, with an orange glow along the horizon. The coin can be gold or silver. Add their name, your name and an optional message; if you leave the message empty, a short wish suited to the occasion is shown.

When to send it

The same fountain is used for five occasions, and the phrase on the water changes to match: just because ('Thinking of you'), birthdays ('Happy birthday'), New Year ('Happy New Year'), cheer up and get well ('Everything will be okay') and new beginnings ('Wishing you well'). It needs no microphone or special permission: a finger on a phone, or the mouse on a computer.

Common questions

What if the coin misses the fountain?

If the throw is too short or too strong, the coin hits the rim and comes back, with a hint on how to throw. On the third try it always lands in the water, and the 'Toss it for me' button is available the whole time.

What appears on the water?

A short phrase for the occasion with their name underneath, such as 'Happy New Year' or 'Wishing you well'. Your longer message comes afterwards on a separate card.

What's the difference between night and dusk?

Only the sky colour and the light in the scene. Night is cool and navy blue, dusk is warmer with an orange horizon; the steps are the same.
